At MARITIME INNOVATORS, maritime accident prevention, analysis, and response form a key part of our mission. Drawing on real-world seafaring experience and international project coordination, we design training and digital tools that help maritime professionals act with clarity, speed, and competence during emergencies.
Our Foundation in Safety at Sea
Our founder, Capt. Ugurcan Acar, began his maritime career as an Officer of the Watch and later worked in academia and policy-oriented research. His first-hand exposure to risk situations at sea led to our organization’s commitment to addressing accidents through both education and innovation.
We focus on:
- Prevention through competence-based learning
- Digital platforms to simulate emergency scenarios
- Policy input on safety standards and response systems
Projects Focused on Maritime Accidents
Our portfolio includes several Erasmus+ projects directly focused on safety and accident response:
🔹 SeaSAFER (Coordinator)
A simulation-based project that trained seafarers in realistic accident scenarios, improving decision-making and crew response during fire, collision, grounding, and man-overboard situations.
Included emergency-related English communication modules for use during fire drills, engine failure, and distress signaling crucial for multicultural crews.
Though broader in scope, these projects supported risk awareness and peer mentoring systems that indirectly reduce the likelihood and impact of accidents through knowledge sharing.
Tools & Training We Provide
- Interactive digital scenarios of real-world accident types (collision, grounding, fire, flooding, etc.)
- Crisis communication modules tailored to STCW standards
- Evaluation and feedback systems to measure learner performance during simulated drills
- Trainer toolkits and multilingual content for international deployment
- Risk-awareness frameworks embedded in career mentoring and transition platforms
Our Vision
We aim to:
- Reduce human error in maritime emergencies through practical training
- Contribute to EU-wide maritime safety strategies
- Build accessible platforms for crew-level safety culture, not just compliance
- Support VET institutions and shipping companies in improving safety education
