Project Spotlight: SeaSAFER Launches to Strengthen Maritime Safety Culture

The Erasmus+ KA2 project “SeaSAFER – Simulation of Sea Accidents For Effective Responses” has officially launched, spearheaded by the Lithuanian Maritime Academy in Klaipėda. This forward-thinking initiative leverages real-world accident data to create simulation-based training scenarios that strengthen safety culture in maritime education.

Project Partners

SeaSAFER brings together an international consortium of maritime education leaders:

  • MARITIME INNOVATORS (Turkey) – Developers of digital learning tools and simulations for vocational maritime education
  • IDEC S.A. (Greece) – Experts in vocational training and project consulting
  • Escola Superior Náutica Infante D. Henrique (Portugal) – National authority in maritime education and training
  • Naval Academy “Nikola Y. Vaptsarov” (Bulgaria) – Bulgaria’s leading institution for naval and maritime higher education
  • Mircea cel Bătrân Naval Academy (Romania) – Renowned for military and civilian maritime training

SeaSAFER addresses a growing need in the maritime industry: learning from real incidents to prevent future ones. The project is developing:

  • A library of accident and incident-based training scenarios
  • An interactive assessment platform for both navigation and engineering disciplines
  • An emphasis on fostering a Safety Culture at Sea through experiential learning

“The tools we’re building will help seafarers understand past mistakes and prevent future ones,” said Ugurcan Acar, General Manager of MARITIME INNOVATORS.

“SeaSAFER promotes a proactive mindset in safety not just compliance, but comprehension.”
