MARSEILLE, FRANCE — The PraC-MARENG project, supported by the European Commission, hosted its official conference on 21 October 2021 at Sky Center La Marseillaise in Marseille. Themed “Practical Communicative Approach in Maritime English”, the event introduced the project’s key outputs and promoted open dialogue on improving communication standards at sea.

The event was organized by LAM FRANCE in collaboration with the PraC-MARENG partnership, comprising:
- MARITIME INNOVATORS (Turkey)
- Tuzla Kaymakamlığı – Project Development Office (Turkey)
- Constanta Maritime University (Romania)
- Lithuanian Maritime Academy (Lithuania)
- Spinaker (Slovenia)
Purpose and Audience
The conference targeted a broad audience of academics, maritime professionals, policy makers, and international organizations involved in Maritime English training and standards. The goal was to present the PraC-MARENG platform, gather expert feedback, and foster exchange on best practices in maritime communication education.

- Introduction to the PraC-MARENG e-learning platform
- Case studies on Maritime English teaching across the EU
- Identifying the need for role-specific Maritime English tools
- Supporting mobility and language proficiency for seafarers globally
The PraC-MARENG Platform
The project developed a modular learning program tailored to different ranks and roles onboard—aligned with real-life vessel operations and the Standard Marine Communication Phrases (SMCP) framework. It offers a scenario-based approach to language training for both deck and engine department personnel.
