MARITIME INNOVATORS is proud to announce the launch of its latest Erasmus+ initiative: SEA4SHORE, a project designed to support seafarers as they navigate the transition from shipboard service to shore-based careers.
Project Mission
The maritime industry faces a growing challenge: the average career span at sea is less than 5 years. Many seafarers leave the profession early due to lifestyle demands, limited career progression, or family commitments. SEA4SHORE aims to:
- Empower seafarers with career planning resources and tools
- Help identify transferable skills for onshore maritime occupations
- Provide cost-effective pathways to retain maritime talent within the sector
- Contribute to the long-term sustainability of the maritime workforce
What Will SEA4SHORE Deliver?
- An interactive online platform with guidance for career transition
- A self-assessment tool for skill-matching and career direction
- Case studies, mentoring resources, and digital support
- Insights from real-life seafarers who have successfully moved ashore
The project bridges the gap between offshore experience and onshore opportunity, making career mobility more accessible and structured.
What’s Next?
The SEA4SHORE consortium will begin by collecting seafarer interviews, conducting skills analysis, and piloting its platform in selected maritime education and training institutions across Europe.
Why This Matters
SEA4SHORE offers a strategic response to labor retention in maritime professions. By creating smoother pathways to shore-based employment, it protects industry knowledge, reduces recruitment gaps, and supports seafarer wellbeing.
